Welcome to Shintolin! This is a quick guide for new players to help you get started.

Once you have signed up and logged in, then you will find yourself in a random location in Shintolin. Your screen will show a brief introduction to Shintolin and underneath this, the map of where you are and the surrounding squares. To the right is your command list, which you must use to eat food, use items, build, craft and attack and other functions.

Try using some of the commands and see what happens… For example, “Use ‘Noobcake’ on ‘Self’”. If you click Use, then you will eat one of your noobcakes. Underneath the command list are the items you are carrying. You begin the game with 9 noobcakes. Try eating a few, and notice your hunger level under the map. When you are full it will be at 12/12. Your hunger drops by 1 every 8 hours. So make sure you don’t run out of food, if you do you will start losing HP (health points). Shintolin doesn’t use water, only food, so don’t worry about thirst.

The maximum AP (action points) you can have is 100. These allow you to do things in Shintolin. Once they run out you will have to wait for more (you will get 3 every hour if you stay outside, resting in a building, or by a campfire, gives you more).

Try the ‘Search’ button at the bottom of your command list. Depending which terrain type you are in you could find any number of different items. Or perhaps you will find nothing. Keep trying or move somewhere else and try searching there. To move to another square on the map, click which direction you want to go on the map. You may find it costs more AP to move on some terrain types, like hills and forests. Try exploring the map and see what or who you find…

A few handy items you should try to keep with you;
- ‘Thyme Sprigs’ to heal yourself (search in the meadows),
- A weapon of some kind (sticks and staves can be found in the forest, stones in hills and streams),
- Some food (noobcakes can only be eaten when you stay at Level 1).
- If you find a flint (in the hills), you could craft a hand axe with a flint and a stone…

There are four different groups for XP (experience points), Wanderer, Herbalist, Crafter and Warrior. There are numerous ways to gain XP but they differ for each group, for example, one way to gain Wanderer XP is to search for items. Every time you find something, you will gain 1 Wanderer XP. I will let you find other ways to gain XP by experimenting with all the things to do in Shintolin.

To use your XP, click the ‘Buy Skills’ button, underneath the map. It will show a screen where you can buy new skills once you gain enough XP.

If you are finding life in the wilderness a little tough, or just wish to play the game with some other people, then try finding a settlement. The people in the settlement are sure to guide you and look after you if you help them in return, with searching for needed items or helping to build. Just don’t take from their stockpiles without asking, or giving something in return. You will most likely be chased out of town and not welcomed back!

If you still have any more questions, then post them in the Beginner Questions thread on the forum and someone will answer them for you as soon as they can.

Hey sorry to bug this topic but I think it's worth putting in this thread the time zone that the game runs on as I have been confused quite often by these whacked out times and I was hoping that you Isaac could clear this up, seeing as you created the game and I imagine decided which time zone to use Wink

I think it is GMT+9 (most notably North and South Korea times) but I am probably wrong.

AfterEdit: Oh yeah and feel free to move this post wherever, to an appropriate topic or to a dumpster. On second thought it doesn't really belong here at all!

Its GMT. The Daily tick for the server is at 6am, but Isaac tells me the season change is at a different time. I'll let him clear it up properly as his explanation confused me...
